Community Planner (Transportation & Broadband)

AVCOG is seeking a Community Planner with a focus on Transportation and Broadband planning services. Responsibilities include providing technical assistance to member municipalities; and acting as liaison between local, state, and federal agencies in the following areas: 

Transportation Planning:

  • Serve as the liaison between MaineDOT and the rural communities in the AVCOG region 
  • Provide technical assistance and planning related services including (e.g. safety planning; Bicycle Pedestrian, Complete Streets, and Age-Friendly Planning; ADA Data Collection; Comprehensive Planning – Transportation Sections)

 Broadband Planning:

  • Provide support and education to communities and groups of communities within the region to help support broadband planning and community-driven infrastructure solutions;
  • Convene a regional alliance focused on digital inclusion; and oversee the development of a digital equity plan in Androscoggin County;
  • Participate in the Maine Broadband Coalition’s Digital Equity Taskforce and 5-Year Broadband Action Plan committee;

 Required qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in urban or regional planning; public administration; or related field; Excellent written and oral communication skills;
  • Ability to manage concurrent tasks efficiently; 
  • Ability to work independently and within a team environment
  • Ability to facilitate and lead meetings – both virtual and in-person;
  • Valid driver’s license and a reliable motor vehicle.

Additional desirable skills/qualifications:

  • Familiarity with municipal land use planning;
  • ESRI ArcGIS experience
