Senior listening tour in Auburn Thursday
Sun Journal Lewiston-Auburn | Monday, July 11, 2016
AUBURN — House Speaker Mark Eves, D-North Berwick, will host the
second stop on his statewide senior listening tour from 9:30 to 11 a.m.
Thursday, July 14, at Central Maine Community College, Kirk Hall.
He will be joined by Rep. Jared Golden, D-Lewiston, and representatives of
SeniorsPlus.
According to Golden, part of his work on the Legislature's Transportation
Committee was "grappling with ways to help Mainers get where they’re
going, safely. Our infrastructure, like the veins in our body, keeps our
neighbors moving to jobs, homes and businesses that form the bedrock of
our state."
He said in a written statement, "For too many Maine seniors getting to
doctors’ appointments and the grocery store can be a real difficulty. Add
these transportation challenges to expensive housing costs and the need for
better care and you have the unique challenges many seniors face in our
community."
Thursday's session will focus on transportation, caregivers and housing
costs. The public is invited to share ideas about helping more Maine seniors
live independently in the homes and communities in which they raised their
families.
