Posted on: May 17, 2018[ARCHIVED] AVCOG Recipient of Central Maine Community College President’s Award

??Each year the Central Maine Community President’s Award is presented to an individual or organization that has made significant contributions to the College, through service, advocacy, or support and collaboration. This year’s prestigious President’s Award for 2018 was presented to the Androscoggin Valley Council of Governments.
After the college secured a million dollar grant from the Gene Haas Foundation to renovate and expand the Precision Machining lab, AVCOG was instrumental in bringing the U.S. Economic Development Administration (EDA) to the table. Working with CMCC, the two entities were able to demonstrate the lab expansion would enable the college to provide more services to businesses in Maine and increase their capacity to educate the manufacturing workforce.
AVCOG Executive Director, Amy Landry, assisted CMMC with their EDA application, which resulted in a $1.6 million dollar grant, and was also instrumental with the school’s successful application to the Northern Border Regional Commission for additional funding for the project. Roger Phillippon, CMCC’s Dean of Planning and Public Affairs, noted, “The wealth of knowledge and excellent reputation that AVCOG brought to bear were key to our success in getting this funding.
